There are stars whose radiance is visible on earth though they have long been extinct.
There are people whose brilliance continues to light the world
though they are no longer among the living.
These lights are particularly bright when the night is dark.
They light the way for mankind. –Hannah Senesh (1921-1944)
Hannah Senesh was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1921. She joined the British Army in 1943 and volunteered to be parachuted into Europe. This was to aid the Allied efforts in Europe and establish contact with resistance fighters to aid Jewish communities who were being sent to concentration camps.
She was arrested, imprisoned and tortured, but refused to reveal details of her mission. In 1944, she was tried and executed by a German firing squad.
